Topic 3 of 8

Step 3 · Adding and subtracting to 20 topics

Count past 100 to 120, starting from any number, and read and write the numbers as you go.

Counting past 100

After 99 comes 100, one hundred. Then counting starts the pattern again: 101, 102, 103, just like 1, 2, 3 with "one hundred" in front.

Aftercomes
99100
109110
119120

100 is ten tens. 110 is eleven tens. 120 is twelve tens.

Ten rods of ten make 100. Twelve rods of ten make 120.

Reading and writing numbers to 120

Write the numbers you say: one hundred four is 104, with a 0 in the middle because there are no extra tens. One hundred fourteen is 114.

Counting on from any number

You can start anywhere. From 96, count on: 97, 98, 99, 100, 101. Crossing 100 is just like crossing any ten.

Counting on from 96 across 100 to 101.
